For the manufacture of turned and milled parts in large series production, qualitative dimensional control is an important tool for ensuring lasting component quality. The time and personnel required for these controls varies depending on the complexity and nature of the components. For small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), manual dimensional control is currently the standard of quality control.
However, an automated dimensional check during the manufacturing process not only shows a considerable potential for savings in the areas of energy and resources, but also an increase in quality and production.
The Fraunhofer IOSB-INA with the location in Lemgo and IWN analyzed this potential in a study.
